Proposal Development Enhancement (PDE)
Task Force Committee

Research & Innovation » Office of the Senior Vice President

Our Mission

To identify strategies, policies, and services delivered by the Office of Research and Innovation that will facilitate the generation of more competitive proposals for large scale, multi-collaborator, federally-funded grants. These awards may involve interdisciplinary research, a discipline specific focus, and/or external partners. Their common characteristic is the complexity of the proposal development process. The goal is to establish a set of recommendations that will make the process of competing for these awards easier for interested researchers.

Our Goal

The research enterprise at USF has grown at a high rate in recent years. Between 2000 and 2007, USF's federal research expenditures increased by 213%, or $158.4 M, with little change to its research infrastructure. In support of research activities across the University, Dr. Karen Holbrook, Vice President for Research and Innovation, has recommended the formation of a task force dedicated to exploring the ways in which the OR&I can better support faculty with the preparation of large, multi-collaborator, complex grant proposals.

The Proposal Development Enhancement Task Force will be comprised of faculty system-wide, as well as key research administration personnel. Your input is absolutely critical to the successful identification of ways to improve the process associated with generating competitive grant proposals for awards where the proposal development process is complex, labor intensive, and often short in duration.

The goal of the Proposal Development Enhancement Task Force is to establish a set of recommendations that will make the process of competing for these types of awards easier for faculty. These recommendations that will strengthen the Office's research support infrastructure, and in particular, the availability and effectiveness of the support provided to researchers, in the context of the grant proposal process. The task force will concentrate its attention on the proposal development stage and those services and/or programs that will (1) increase the efficiency of proposal generation, (2) facilitate the coordination of proposal information, (3) support faculty during the process, and (4) encourage growth in externally funded research at USF.
