Internal (USF) Letter of Intent
Deadlines for September 2005

Internal Due Date # of Submissions
Allowed
  Title
September 09, 2005 NIRT proposals may be submitted by a single organization or a group of organizations consisting of a lead organization in partnership with one or more partner organizations. U.S. academic institutions with significant research and degree-granting education programs in disciplines normally supported by NSF are eligible to be the lead organization. Principal investigators are encouraged to form synergistic collaborations with industry, government laboratories, and scientists and engineers at foreign organizations where appropriate, though no funds will be provided to those organizations. The National Science Foundation (NSF) announces a program on collaborative research and education in the area of nanoscale science and engineering. The goal of this program is to support fundamental research and catalyze synergistic science and engineering research and education in emerging areas of nanoscale science and technology, including: biosystems at the nanoscale; nanoscale structures, novel phenomena, and quantum control; nanoscale devices and system architecture; nanoscale processes in the environment; multi-scale, multi-phenomena theory, modeling and simulation at the nanoscale; manufacturing processes at the nanoscale; and studies on the societal and educational implications of scientific and technological advances on the nanoscale. This solicitation will provide support for Nanoscale Interdisciplinary Research Teams (NIRT), Nanoscale Exploratory Research (NER), and Nanoscale Science and Engineering Centers (NSEC).

Agency Deadline:
November 10, 2005

September 09, 2005

Limited applications accepted. An academic institution, organization, or agency may submit only one CLT proposal as the lead partner for a given competition. However, an academic institution, organization, or agency may be a co-partner in more than one CLT proposal. Simultaneous submission of collaborative proposals from different organizations will not be allowed.

A preliminary proposal is required and due by November 10, annually. The full proposal deadline date to be announced.

The Centers for Learning and Teaching (CLT) program focuses on the advanced preparation of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) educators, as well as the establishment of meaningful partnerships among education stakeholders, especially Ph.D.-granting institutions, school systems, and informal education performers. Its goals are to renew and diversify the cadre of leaders in STEM education; to increase the number of K-16 educators capable of delivering high-quality STEM instruction and assessment; and to conduct research into STEM education issues of national import (e.g., the nature of learning, teaching strategies, and reform policies and outcomes).

The W. M. Keck Foundation seeks to enrich research and teaching through support for equipment, facilities, faculty, and curriculum development at the frontiers of science and engineering. Recognizing the importance of undergraduate instruction, the foundation also supports excellent undergraduate college science and engineering programs, and encourages multidisciplinary projects and multi-college cooperative science ventures. The focus of the undergraduate program is primarily on private, predominately undergraduate institutions.

Awards are also made each year to support exceptional undergraduate projects in all of the liberal arts. Past grants have focused on faculty-student research and incorporating new instructional technologies into the liberal arts curriculum.
