Funding 101: Learn how to put COS to work for you!

Description: Funding 101: is a training workshop designed to introduce you to the funding database Community of Science (COS). The COS database contains approximately 400,000 funding opportunities and you will be provided with the valuable tools you need to navigate the database and find funding opportunities that are in line with your research interests. Things you will learn include:
  • Familiarity with the five search interfaces
  • How to make sense of the funding records
  • Getting more information beyond the record
  • Tracking specific opportunities
  • How to set up a tracking tool and receive emails with relevant funding opportunities specific for you

Keeping a High Profile: COS Expertise Networking

Description: COS Expertise training is a workshop designed to introduce you to the COS Expertise Database. Expertise contains approximately 450,000 self-edited profiles of researchers, scholars and experts that can work as a valuable tool in:
  • Keeping track of internal research capabilities
  • Publicizing research capabilities externally
  • Identifying peer reviewers for articles and proposals
  • Discovering prospective collaborators for ongoing research projects
  • Systematically disseminating relevant grant information to individual faculty
  • Assisting with multidisciplinary funding projects

Grants.gov Workshop

Description: Grants.gov is the single access point for over 1,000 grant programs offered by all Federal grant making agencies. This workshop serves as an introduction to Grants.gov and covers the following topics:
  • Overview of the major types of formal agreements available through Grants.gov
  • A brief history of this federal grant resource
  • Locating/downloading available grant applications for research areas of interest
  • How to complete and submit a downloaded grant application
The workshop also allows time for a hands-on demonstration and questions.

The Basics

Description: The Basics will review the following areas of proposal preparation:
  • Resources to use for finding funding for even the most challenging projects
  • Pointers on basic proposal preparation (i.e. budget justifications, project summaries, etc.)
  • General overview of USF's grant process

It is intended for faculty, graduate students, and clerical or support staff who are working on or considering a proposal submission.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Course

Description: Continuing Education Courses - This course provides information about general personal protection equipment (PPE) available for use in biomedical laboratories. Topics include basic PPE types, protection levels, limitations, material types, selection, use and care, hazard recognition, policy, and resources available.

This meets the annual continuing education requirement for those who have completed the core course in a previous year. This web-based training course can be accessed worldwide from the Internet or via a CD. It takes about 45 minutes to complete. To receive credit, you must pre-register on-line.

Biological Safety Cabinet Course

Description: Continuing Education Course - This meets the annual continuing education requirement for those who have completed the core course in a previous year. This web-based training course can be accessed worldwide from the Internet. It takes about 45 minutes to complete. To receive credit, you must pre-register on-line.

Shipping Biohazardous Materials

Description: Special Topics - Those personnel who ship and/or receive potentially infectious biological agents are required to complete this course biannually. This is computer-based training that takes about 3 hours to complete. For more information or to schedule time to complete the course, please go to the registration page.
