Technology Transfer Office, Patents and Licensing
The Technology Transfer Office (TTO), Patents and Licensing was established in 1990 to facilitate the commercialization of university intellectual property, including patents and copyrights. The University of South Florida was recently ranked in the Top 20 for Licensing Income Received in FY2010.
The TTO works with researchers and students in every college to ready new inventions for the patenting process and potential licensing opportunities. TTO's work allows for a sustained focus on transferring cutting-edge research and innovation to the commercial marketplace, generating revenue and diversifying the economy.
Our office has a knowledgeable and experienced professional staff leading the university's technology transfer efforts through collaborations with businesses and facilitation of university start-up companies. In FY2012, Patents and Licensing had a record breaking 98 patents granted and 52 license / commercialization agreements, including the formation of 10 start-up companies. Recent rankings from IPO ranked USF in the Top 10 Universities worldwide and within the Top 300 Organizations worldwide for US granted patents. TTO endeavors to educate and promote innovation, the result of which is products, jobs and technologies utilized in the public interest.
