The Division of Patents & Licensing (DPL) is responsible for the development, protection, and utilization of intellectual property rights, as well as the development and coordination of cooperative ventures the University of South Florida undertakes with business and industry in the promotion of technology transfer and the commercial exploitation of intellectual property.

Material Transfer & Confidential Disclosure Agreement Instructions
When USF employees believe that they have discovered/invented a new and useful item, compound or method (any art or process, machine, manufacture, design, or composition of matter, or any new and useful improvement thereof), they must disclose as soon as possible to the Division of Patents & Licensing for evaluation and filing of appropriate documents.
To obtain the best protection for an invention, appropriate documentation must be prepared PRIOR to public disclosure, i.e. public presentations (oral or poster), publications (abstracts or full manuscripts).

Invention Disclosure FormFile this form to disclose any discovery, invention, process, composition of matter, article of manufacture, know-how, design, model, technological development, strain, variety, or culture of any organism, or portion, modification, translation, or extension of these items, and any mark used in connection with these items. Disclosure of Work Form
File this form to disclose works of authorship which comprise a body of information which may be protected by copyright. This would include printed material, computer software or data bases, audio and visual material, circuit diagrams, architectural and engineering drawings, lectures, musical or dramatic compositions, choreographic works, pictorial or graphic works, and sculptural works.
