INTERNAL
AWARDS: BRIEF SUMMARIES*
The Internal Awards program is funded from indirect cost revenues generated by externally funded grants. As such, their availability and funding levels are not guaranteed.
When funded, the following grant programs are available to faculty pursuing a career at USF. This includes tenured/tenure earning faculty and those faculty members in renewable, non-tenure earning positions that require independent research or scholarship. Researchers who are serving in a post-doctoral capacity with short-term goals for employment at USF are not eligible for these grants.

Conference
Support Grants – Fall only Maximum $10,000 per conference
The Conference Support Grants are designed to foster excellence in research and creative activity at USF. Conferences are an important part of the research and creative process because they provide a venue for the dissemination of new information and provide a forum for the exchange of ideas. Therefore, the Conference Support program provides supplemental funding for the planning and implementation of national and international conferences in order to enhance the research and creative environment at USF and to bring prestige and recognition to the University.

Interdisciplinary
Research Development Grants – Spring only – Maximum $25,000/year
for 2 years
The Interdisciplinary Research Development Grant program was created to stimulate interdisciplinary research collaboration and the exploration of innovative ideas. The term “interdisciplinary” is loosely defined to include faculty from different departments within a single USF college or across USF colleges/schools, or USF faculty in collaboration with faculty in different disciplines at other universities. The Principal Investigator and at least 50% of the co-investigators must be employed by USF. The goal of this grant is to lay the foundation for large-scale external grant applications, in particular, large multi-study grants, such as center grants, program project grants and training grants. The Grants will fund pilot, draft or preliminary studies or projects as well as the multifaceted planning necessary to organize such an effort. |
 |
New
Researcher Grants – Fall & Spring – Maximum $10,000 for one year
The New Researcher Grants are designed for early career faculty who are new to USF (< 3 years) and do not have established funding sources (external or college/departmental). The program's goal is to enable new faculty to launch productive research, scholarship, or artistic expression/performance activities that will ultimately result in grant funding from external agencies or foundations. These Grants will fund pilot, draft or preliminary studies/projects. It is expected that these results will provide the basis for external grant proposals and publication or exhibition of the results. Associate or full professors who are new to USF should apply for the Established Researcher Grant. |
