update for USF Health. The College of Medicine is focused on
recruitment, core facilities, and other issues to facilitate and
expand signature programs and clinical research. The College of
Public Health is focused on faculty recruitment, facilities and
building research programs with an international focus. The College

Dr. Khator discussed building a
sustainable research enterprise for USF. USF is one of Carnegie’s 63
top tier, “very high research activity,” public universities. Our
next goal is to be a top 50 public research university. Of the four
types of research—STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math);
Social and Behavioral; Professional; Creative and Humanities—Provost
Khator presented STEM research; at the next meeting, she will
discuss Social and Behavioral Research. The transformation of
research at USF was the STEM strategy (2001-2006), which included
building faculty capacity, space capacity, doctoral capacity, and
growth in research expenditures.
Dr. Zaworotko, Professor and
Chair, Department of Chemistry, presented, “Center for Molecular
Diversity in Drug Design, Discovery and Delivery, CMD5.” <click

of the Center is early stage drug discovery/delivery, providing lead
components for drug development, devising new platform technologies
in drug discovery and drug delivery, synergism with existing
research centers, collaborating openly with other researchers, and
educating and training scientists in drug discovery.
Re-engineering the Clinical
Research Enterprise at USF Health:
Abdul Rao
